Jesus is my Superhero

                                                                                                                             By Linda Cornett-Ching
Our family are big movie fans. Our everyday language is interwoven with so many lines from our favorite movies an outsider might not always track with us. When my son was dating his now wife, who isn't a movie fan, she didn't understand our references. Whenever we get together quotes start flying around, then laughter erupts as we go from one quote to another describing our favourite scene.
We took it upon ourselves and thought it our duty to educate her. So as not to overwhelm her though we began gifting her one at a time with our favourite movies. The first one and our number one all time favourite movie that no holiday would be complete with out... National Lampoons Christmas vacation.
Slowly, painfully slowly, she has began to watch some of the movies we have assigned to her and at last she can appreciate our sense of humour. We have adapted this way of speaking for so long we don't even realize we are doing it. Once in a while my husband or I will ask "what line is that from?" If we can't figure it there is always google. Sometimes I'll surprise him and say "It's an original and all mine!"

There's been so many superhero movies made in that last couple of years... even I'm getting tired of it. But if I had to pick one as my favourite I would have to say Wonder Woman. What's not to love? An Island of women warriors, come on! Invaders land on the beach of their Island and as you watch them charge in on their horses, arrows flying, brandishing swords and spears, going full out beating back the enemy, it's exhilarating. These are not timid women. Diana (Wonder Woman) leaves the Island but struggles with her identity. Don't we all have this same battle from time to time? As she comes to terms with who she is, a Princess, a warrior, defender, she realizes this gives her a unique power which she is able to tap into when confronted by a particularly evil foe. She declares "I am Diana Princess of Themyscira, in the name of all that is good, your wrath upon this world is over" and smites the bad baddie. Then she is off to fight evil wherever she is needed.
What does any of this have to do with you, you ask? Well God meets us where we live? He finds a way to make the Bible come alive and make it relatable to us personally. I was reading my iStock 000005059617XSmallBible and journaling the other day when God spoke this to me. Ephesians 3:20 "Never doubt God's mighty power to work in you and accomplish all this. He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream and exceed your wildest imagination! He will out do them all, for His miraculous power constantly energizes you." Passion Translation.
That's quite a verse! I try and write a declaration from the verses I read. This is a little long but this is what came to me. "Never doubt God's mighty power to accomplish what He wants in my life. He will accomplish infinitely more than anything I ask, anything I could dream. He will exceed my wildest imagination! Watch Him out do them all. His miraculous power - which is greater than the Avengers, X-Men, Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman, Gandalf, the force or any other superhero combined! is constantly energizing me!      Wow!" Whatever your favourite superhero, God has them beat.
If you could choose a superhero and villain to go head to head who would it be? The most epic battle took place 2,000 years ago when Jesus died on the cross. He spent three days battling the forces of darkness and captured the keys of death, hell and the grave. He set the captives free. He conquered death forever. He defeated the biggest foe, the baddest baddie the world has ever known. The enemy keeps trying to take us out but we need to know he's already been defeated and tap into the supernatural life giving power of the Almighty God of the universe! You and I can make a declaration like this... "I am Linda, Princess warrior of the Lord God Almighty. In His name your attack upon me is over" Isaiah 54:17 says "No weapon formed against me shall prosper...this is my heritage as a servant of the Lord."NKJV That's the greatest super hero story of all time.
